Meet Shella from Newark, Ohio
Shella Miller is a director at Colvin-Hoover House in Newark, Ohio, where she helps people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. She assists them with socialization skills and activities such as bowling, exercise class, cooking class, and date night. She requested $6,000 to purchase a large capacity washer/dryer, a new refrigerator, 13 adult beds and 2 youth beds as well as bedding. The new bedding will allow them to provide more overnight services to those in need.Diary Starts Here

It took a while but Shella has finally ordered some air beds, fifteen to be exact. Looks like more people will be spending the night.

We just heard that Shella is working with a group of singers who will be performing for the public on May 7th. All performers have disabilities.

Shella said she had a grandchild coming but I didn't realize how soon. Her new granddaughter arrived the day after my phone call and her name is Schmebri Leeanne. The new mom, Shella's daughter Clarice, is in one of Shella's photos on the left. We love to receive photos to share and Shella sent us another family photo, this one of her beagle, Jake.
As for her purchases, Shella is already talking to a plumber about the new washer/dryer.

Boy it was fun to call Shella today to surprise her with the news that she'll receive the $6,000 grant she requested. There was a roomful of people including her mom, Phyllis, executive director Robin Reid, and three department directors. In fact the center is named after mom, Phyllis Colvin, who has been a longtime supporter. Shella has six grandchildren with one more coming!

5/06/09: Pansy wrote... "Shelly, I don't get the time to tell you, since we are so far apart, but I am so proud of you. I have been for a very long time. I see how much you do and sacrifice, to give to the Colvin House, all the years at the ARC, and continued sacrifice to your own family and ours. You never get the acknowledgment you deserve, for all you do. Of course, you don't do it for the glory, you were never like that. Again, I am proud of you and I love you very much. Thank you God for my sister! Your little sister, Pansy"
